Do you sometimes get discouraged on your journey to live out your calling? Do you ever feel like others who are called to do the same work that you do somehow just seem to be succeeding and blossoming? You are not alone. If I were in the room with you right now you would see me raising my hand. However, I want to encourage you that God is rejoicing in the fact that you are pursing your calling and willing to keep taking the next simple step.
God’s word encourages us with these words ….
Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the
work begin … Zechariah 4:10a
Every New Venture Starts Out Small
Starting a new venture can sometimes be overwhelming and discouraging. For instance, I started a FB group with hopes to create a place where women of faith can gather to get the support and encouragement they need as they step out in faith to pursue their calling. But, just yesterday I became discouraged when I went to the group site. The reason I became discouraged was because I started researching other group sites for Christian women and saw that many of them had an extremely high following. Many had as many as 5k, 1.5 k, and even the smaller groups had followers in the hundreds. And my group has less than 25 members including myself. Some of those members are friends from my FB page that I added myself. I know this sounds petty, but I a human. I want to be as open and as real as possible as I share my journey towards living out my calling. I started wondering what I was doing wrong. Here I was again, comparing myself again to others. But, I had to reminding myself that even those groups with a large following started with one person who had a desire to serve.
No Step is Too Small
The best thing we can do for ourselves when starting out on our journey to pursue our calling is to remember that it is God who ordained and orders our steps for this journey. No matter who we are, we must allow God to lead us one step at a time. Yes, God has a plan and purpose for our lives, and yes He knows the whole picture and how things will turn out. But, God wants us to walk out this journey under His leadership and this requires small steps. God requires that we follow His lead wholeheartedly through prayer, study of His word, and by guidance of the Holy Spirit within. So, we should have gratitude for each small step knowing that God is leading us on the right path towards success in our calling.
Every Step Should Be Celebrated
With God there is no such thing as a small victory. Every step towards living out your calling to advance the work of God should be celebrated. Know that each small step is moving you forward in the right direction. The more you recognize and celebrate the small victories, the more you grow in faith. Not only that, God also notices and rejoices with you. Also, remember that at the core of your calling is service to others, and those you are called to serve are also watching, and one of those small steps you take may very well be the encouragement they need to help them in their next step of their journey.
